Gary Mitchell Sr

Gary Mitchell, Sr. was born on August 16, 1954, in Hinesville, Georgia, the eldest child of seven children to Hosie Mitchell Sr. “Dad” (deceased) and Lula M. Mitchell “Mother Dear.” They moved their family to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gary attended South Jr. Middle School and graduated from Mitchell High School. Gary went on to receive his certification in Master Welding from Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado, Springs, Colorado. On January 17, 2024, Gary Mitchell, Sr. will be welcomed to rest with the ancestors. At an early age, Gary accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and savior. Gary will be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, and friend to all that knew him. He took great pride being the big brother to his siblings. Gary was a resident of Atlanta, Georgia for over 40 years. Gary was the proud owner of the Gresham Barber Shop in Gresham, Georgia, where he was a Master Barber. Gary showed great interest in cutting hair as an adolescent, practicing, and honing his craft on his family friends and anyone who dared to sit in his chair. Each haircut had to be perfect as he often cut his own hair to provide as evidence of his mastery skills to gain trust of others. Gary Mitchell had a love for all sports; basketball, football, gymnastics, skating, skiing, hiking, and wrestling. While a student at South Jr. High School, as an eighth grader he made the Varsity Gymnastic Team in the Vault event. Gary continued his love for sports and joined the wrestling team for Mitchell High School. Gary also had a love for welding, he perfected his skills and earned a scholarship to Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) as a ninth grader. His passion for outdoor activities convinced many of his family and friends to join him on many hiking trips in the Colorado mountains. This was to build confidence while rushing down the side of a mountain full speed zigzagging to control their descent. In the words of Gary, “Do it right or the landing will be painful!” Lastly, everyone who knew Gary Mitchell knew he had a passion for cars. One of the first cars he purchased was a yellow Corvette. He would tell you about the many cars that he owned. He would tell anyone he encountered that he had owned over two hundred cars in his lifetime. Gary Mitchell, Sr. is preceded in death by “Dad” Hosie Mitchell Sr., stepfather Robert Godbolt, brothers Calvin Mitchell and Kenneth E. Mitchell. He is survived by son, Gary Mitchell, Jr.; Mother Lula M. Godbolt; brothers Reginald Mitchell, Hosie Mitchell, Kevin Walker, Terry McDowell; sisters (Cousin) Marcia McConnell (Charles) Sherry L. Williams, Terry L. Hamm (Terry Sr.), Debra Mixon-Mitchell (sister-in-law); nieces and nephews; Kendra Williams, Gabrielle Mitchell, Galalia Mitchell, Yohanis Shay, Dawn Riley Duval, Damara (Steven Sr.) Parker, D’Andra Mixon-Walker, Jessica Hamm, Terry Hamm Jr., Aaron Mitchell, Kai Daniels, Corrine Watkins; and a host of loving family members and friends. * All flowers and donations can be sent to Gary Mitchell Jr. & the Memorial Services will be at the address listed below. : Gary Mitchell, Sr.’s Memorial Service will be held on 4 February 2024 @ 1200pm – 2:00pm located at Gresham Barber Shop, 2521 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta, GA 30316
