Jacqueline Ruth “Ruthie” Winslow “Whomsoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High shall rest in the shadow of the All Mighty. For I say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress my God in whom I trust”” Psalm 91:1-2 Mother, Sister, Auntie, Friend. Ms. Jacqueline Ruth Winslow, lovingly called “Ruthie,” was called to her heavenly home early Friday morning May 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family as she received her wings. Ruthie was born on January 13 1963 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her Mother Ms. Daisy L. Winslow and is survived by her son Domonique Winslow Sr., and her daughter Darius (Jiovan) Thompson; her two grandchildren Domonique Winslow Jr. and Charlee “sweet sweet” Thompson; two brothers Herman (Verdell) Winslow, Rene Winslow; three sisters Sandra Winslow, Donna Chambliss, and Denise Winslow as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Ruthie graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans and attended People’s United Methodist Church where she was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior. She attended Delgado Community college for Early Childhood Education and was employed by the City of New Orleans for over 25 years. She later moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she did what she loved most: educating and caring for preschoolers. As a paraprofessional she used her talents preparing young children for future success as they transition to grade school. Ruthie was a devoted loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed teaching and creating new ways to enhance early childhood development. She enjoyed writing poetry, singing, dancing and sewing. She was extremely creative and talented and loved serving her community through clothing and food drives as well as volunteering at various organizations. In 2023 Ruthie began her battle with cancer her faith in God never faltered nor did her spirit. She remained calm and hopeful throughout her journey as she repeatedly said “I am waiting on the Lord.” Sickness was not her story and death is not the end for our Lord Jesus Christ was and is. Jacqueline Ruth Winslow was a strong, loving, peaceful, courageous, caring, graceful, and funny, Mother, Meemo, Sister Aunt and friend who was deeply loved and will be forever missed. Celebration of Life and Thanksgiving will be held on June 22, 2024 further details will be provided by the family.
